PROGRAM SPONSORS

It is known that after school programs not only provide a safe space for students whether they are at risk or they are just looking for enrichment opportunities. Recent studies have indicated that after school programs have shown to improve academic achievement, problem solving skills, social skills, confidence, sense of belonging, and leadership skills. Which are all aptitudes that create productive citizens and leaders within our communities. That is why Automotive Education Connection has launched and will be hosting Rookie Season Motorsport Club!

The club allows students enrolled in the Columbia Area Career Center automotive program to meet and participate in enrichment activities, engage with industry partners, and design and build unique projects.

Our 2024 - 2026 project is a 2001 Pontiac Firebird that will be made into an autocross car. Students work in three teams: a design team, a build team, and a marketing team. The teams must collaborate to promote, raise funds, design, and build the project. Once the project is completed, students will host an event to showcase their work to the community and industry professionals!

You can support us in meeting our goals by helping us spread our message! Follow and engage with us on our social media outlets, and share our mission with friends, families, and coworkers! A 2013 BMW 335i was generously donated to Automotive Education Connection by a local couple after experiencing an unfortunate engine failure. The issue stemmed from a common oil filter housing leak, which allowed oil to saturate the drive belt. Eventually, the belt failed and was drawn into the engine through the front main seal. Fortunately, the owners acted quickly and shut down the engine before catastrophic damage occurred. With the help of students, the engine was pulled and disassembled. Upon inspection, the only lower-end damage found was to the cylinder 1 rod bearings and a clogged oil pickup. The crankshaft and remaining rod bearings were in excellent shape, and the top end showed no signs of metal contamination in the oil filter. Although the timing chain guides suffered some wear, the students were excited to find that the core of the engine was salvageable—turning a mechanical setback into a powerful hands-on learning opportunity. The previous owners only request was that we bring it back to life!

2013 BMW 335I

Resurrecting a BMW engine isn’t just about fixing a car, it’s about students discovering the power of persistence, learning with their hands, and proving that precision and passion can start in the classroom.
